Qatar will be the first Arab country to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022

On the 2nd of December 2010 it was announced that the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup bid had been successful, making Qatar the first ever Arab country to host the FIFA World Cup tournament. In their bid for the tournament, led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, son of the present Emir, Qatar has attracted full support from the entire Arab world.

Currently, Qatar is investing heavily into infrastructure, hotels, football stadiums and transportation. A high-speed rail and metro system will be constructed, linking the stadiums to the New Doha International Airport and Lusail City.

Designs for the proposed football stadiums reveal state-of the-art structures employing innovative climate control technology and solar power. Furthermore Qatar has proposed that after the event parts of the stadiums will be dismantled and transported to third-world countries in order to promote football development.
