From an intimate souk to bright and spacious shopping malls, Doha has something for everybody. Shoppers can browse their way through the lively labyrinth of an old souk steeped in local tradition and offering a variety of merchandise from perfumes, spices and jewelry to traditional clothing and camping gear.
The most notable one being Souk Wafiq recognized for its long history and origins as a Bedouin trading area. Here shoppers can take a break from shopping at one of the many restaurants and shisha lounges. Recently it has become known as a hotspot for new art galleries and events. For shoppers looking for familiar brands in a modern environment there are many shopping malls to choose from. The largest shopping complex is Doha’s City Centre, which boasts 350 shops, a large multiplex theatre, a bowling alley and an indoor skating rink. Its anchor stores include Debenhams and the supermarket Carrefour. The Villagio Mall is worth visiting for its breathtaking interior-design and world-famous brands. The Italian-themed mall gives the feeling of being outdoors with its ceiling representing the Tuscan sky and a canal running through the centre complete with gondolas. Other amenities include a 3-D Cinema, ice-skating rink and a roller coaster.
